The foundation has provided over $150,000 to further improve the skill and knowledge of the doctors, nurses, therapists and technicians working in the Whanganui region

Activities

  1. Porritt Lecture

    Annual lecture presented in Whanganui

  2. Neurological study

    Support for a neurological study to be undertaken in 2025 by the Orthopaedic department to assess “The long-term outcome of vein wrapping of the ulnar nerve in severe recurrent chronic cubitus tunnel syndrome”.

  3. Training

    Support of $5,000 for an RN to up skill in hypnotherapy specific to pain management.

  4. Library support

    Supported the purchasing of new furniture for the Whanganui Hospital Medical Library.

Aims and Objectives

The Whanganui Medical Education Foundation was established in 1968 to encourage the dissemination of knowledge in recent advances and new diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of disease. This information is given to the people of the Whanganui region, by the promotion of instructional visits from recognized medical authorities. The Foundation also wishes to encourage and assist medical research locally.
